Marcie: On December 1st, the world will have three new delicious reasons to buy fair trade. The days of unfair business operations may not be completely behind us, but Starbucks is happy to take steps towards reaching this goal with its Lets Merry campaign. The Lets Merry campaign features three new holiday beverages: the Peppermint Mocha, the Caramel Brule Latte and the Gingerbread Latte, all of which are made from organic Fair Trade Certified coffee. In a revolutionary step for our holiday campaign, Starbucks is now paying an average of $1.56 per pound for our premium green unroasted coffee, a 6 percent price increase from 2011. This price increase allows coffee farmers to reap more benefits of the coffee beans they grow and directly gives them more profits. An additional five cents from each holiday drink sold is to be donated to the Global Fund for AIDS. This will also benefit our coffee farmers, many of whom live in areas that are disproportionately affected by the AIDS epidemic. By following our Coffee and Farmer Equity practices, we empower small-scale farmers organized in cooperatives to invest in their farms and communities, protect the environment, and develop the business skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace. Starbucks Fair Trade Certified holiday coffee drinks represent a crucial step in the progress of the Fair Trade Movement. The Lets Merry campaign begins on December 1st and runs until December 31st. Ill be in touch soon to further discuss the new line of beverages. I look forward to speaking with you. Sincerely, Rahel Gebreyes Director of Global Communications, Starbucks
