SEGREGATION AND SPACING OF CABLES

The following segregation and spacing of cables shall be taken into account. If there were double supplies and if it is possible, the segregation of cables m ust ensure in the event of damage (e.g. fire) to a particular section of a cable system and for a minimum part of plant affected (e.g. duty and standby supply c ables shall be installed via separate routes and be distanced from one another a s far as is practicable). Segregation of cables to ensure electromagnetic compatibility between various ty pes of cables; for this purpose all cables shall be categorized into five types namely: Type 1: MV power cables (i.e. 6.6 kV). Type 2: LV power cables (i.e. 400 / 230 Vac or 110 Vdc, UPS..) and contr ol cables (VTs, CTs). Type 3: LV power cables (frequency converters). Type 4:Control cables. (i.e. digital signals 110 Vdc, interlocks). Type 5: Instrumentation cables (Analog/digital signals, 24Vdc). Type 6: Communication cables (Modbus, profibus, fiber optic). The minimum separation among the free space of the aerial cable trays in the dif ferent types shall be as follows: Minimum recommended distance between trays T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 T1 300 600 900 1200 T2 300 300 600 900 T3 600 300 300 600 T4 900 600 300 300 T5 1200 900 600 300 T6 1300 1200 900 600 100 T6 1300 1200 900 600 100 -

These separation distances may be smaller for short runs where cables enter cubi cle or crossover or encounter an obstruction (e.g. pipe). Cables types 2 and 4 may be installed on the same ladder / tray as long as they are separated by a grounded steel barrier. Cables types 5 and 6 may be installed on the same ladder / tray as long as they are separated by a grounded steel bar rier. Any other combination to types on the same ladder / tray is not permitted. The types in any combination shall not be installed in the same conduit (i.e. each conduit shall be dedicated to a specific type). When dropping to equipments cables shall be on the same ladder as follows: MV power cables T1 LV power cables (general) T2,T3 LV power cables (frequency converters) T2,T3 Control cables. T4,T5,T6 Instrumentation cables T4,T5,T6 Communication cables T4,T5,T6 Regarding aerial conduits the configuration system is the same as aerial trays.
