ESRCfunded PhD Studentships in Socio-Legal Studies/Criminology The Scottish Doctoral Training Centre The School of Law at the University

of Dundee is a member of the ESRC Scottish Doctoral Training Centre Socio-legal and Criminology Pathway. This enables us to invite applications from prospective students for ESRC +3 doctoral studentships. The +3 studentship is for students who can demonstrate that they already have sufficient training in research methods. They will then be funded for three years of research on a topic of their choosing. A student can demonstrate their competency in research methods if, for example, they have been awarded a one year MRes or MSc, with an emphasis on research methods. The Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Strathclyde are also members of the ESRC Scottish Doctoral Training Centre Socio-legal and Criminology Pathway and each offers an ESRC recognised one year research training in methods. Dundee does not yet offer such a masters degree. Student applicants should apply directly to the university where they believe their research interests are best represented in staff research activity. Awards will be allocated competitively by the governance committee representing the five universities. Students will work together with others from across Scotland and have rich opportunities to develop their interdisciplinary networks and expertise. Eligibility: The competition is open to (a) UK and EU students who have completed (or expect to complete by the end of the current academic year a Masters qualification in Socio-Legal Studies or Criminology or in a related discipline (e.g., Law, Sociology) from an ESRC recognised outlet (list at http://www.esrc.ac.uk/fundingand-guidance/guidance/postgraduates/index.aspx) and (b) UK and EU students planning to undertake such a Masters qualification followed by a doctorate. Funding: Studentships will cover maintenance and fees for UK candidates, or fees only for EU candidates, starting from autumn 2011. Deadline for applications: 4pm on 3rd May 2011. Applicants should apply directly to the university. Information about PhD programmes, including areas of supervision and how to apply at Dundee is at:
