Female Indian Artists
Female Indian Artists
In this painting, three Indian women are sitting. All of their eyes are downcast, except for one. They are completely covered to show modesty and wear minimal jewelry. The woman in maroon does not have her hands clasped together, it shows defiance because you can tell by her gaze she is unhappy. Her overturned hand is curved as in why is this happening.
Three Girls, Amrita Shergil, 1935 This is one of the first nudes painted ever by a female Indian artist. To this day it is very controversial and one of Sher-gils most remembered and renowned works.
This figure was of course of the Indian woman who lives close to Earth, takes life as it comes, keeps her concerns and convictions to herself yet survives and the world continues in her continuity. -Gogi Saroj Pal
