This research, conducted in April 2008, aimed to find

out the testimonies and experiences of the medical doctors

abroad, specifically on the causes of their leaving the

Philippines, their current job, the country they preferred

to migrate, their most memorable moments in their present

job, and its consequences. Most of the 20 respondents came

from the WVSU in Iloilo City. The common reasons for

migrating were their family, to experience different

cultures, earn high salary, post graduate diploma and

certificate, technological advancement, training and

experiences, and personal growth; opportunity in other

countries came to Filipino medical doctors through

networking and application, contract, through the United

States Medical Licensure Exam, friends and family, and the

US residing Matching Program. Satisfied with their

salaries, most of them were still physicians. Others were

nurses, telemetry technician, and clinical laboratory

scientist. Family, safe place, high compensation, stable

economy and no discrimination were the bottom line for

their choosing the country to migrate. Filipino Medical

doctors abroad had memorable moments such as be of service,

excellence of training, advanced technology, opportunity to

travel, and to meeting new faces, new races. Generally,

they experienced discrimination, personal sacrifice and

home-sickness.
