Fredrick Douglas and His Support

Frederick Douglas: Well known as one of the leading black voices in the abolitionist movement, and a brilliant writer and speaker, he was also a life long supporter of womens suffrage. He was one of the only men to attend the conference at Seneca Falls in 1848 and (without his approval) was the first African American on a national presidential ticket when he was nominated for vice president on the Equal Rights Party ticket in 1872 with Victoria Woodhull was the presidential nominee.
