Young-in
By samuel verburg
Young-in presented her concept in a large drawing. Although the drawing didnt allow for a true interaction, it was a very effective way to discuss the context. Her main concept was a combination of multiple screens in the waiting hall of an airport. Small touchscreens placed on the railing surrounding the main door allowed users to create avatars of the people they were waiting for and themselves. A projection on the door showed an abstracted version of both the waiting hall and the arriving planes inhabited by the avatars. This created a broader understanding of and for the people in the waiting hall, intended to spark conversation. In discussing this concept we discovered the other uses of an avatar system. By creating an avatar of the person you are waiting for you create a number of different uses for these avatars. The avatars allow the crowd to participate in your search for the arriving person. The arriving persons can even become part of a game of who sees someone first.

And when identified the crowd could collectively greet the arriving person. In both cases there is a connection between the crowd and an arriving person that wasnt there before. This connection might be a more successful way of creating the intended conversation between waiting people as it takes away their immediate concern of looking at the gate and make all other people arriving part of their life.
