The Macauley Chamber Music Competition

The Competition
The Macauley Chamber Music Competition is sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Louisville to encourage an interest in chamber music among young musicians in the Kentuckiana area. This competition will help to develop the ensemble skills of young artists and to cultivate a lifelong love of chamber music.

Eligibility
The competition contains two divisions: college and high school. The competition is open to students in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Each entering chamber ensemble should consist of three to six performers and should receive regular coaching from a qualified musician. All members of each ensemble must be available to perform in the Winners Recital.

Repertoire
Each ensemble must perform a movement from two contrasting works, preferably from different musical periods. Arrangements are generally not allowed. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the competition committee.

Judges
The competition will be judged by three professional musicians. Each ensemble will receive evaluation sheets.

Prizes and Awards


Each member of every entering ensemble will receive a complimentary ticket to a concert in the series sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Louisville in Comstock Concert Hall at the University of Louisville School of Music. The following cash prizes will be awarded: College Division High School Division First Prize: $500 First Prize: $300 Second Prize: $350 Second Prize: $250 Optional Third Prizes may be awarded according to the discretion of the judges. All prize winners must perform on the Winners Recital. Other groups may be selected to perform based on musical merit. Cash prizes will be awarded after the Winners Recital performances.

Deadline
Application forms must be postmarked no later than Monday, February 4, 2013.

Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $20 is required from each ensemble.
