1. Devore Chapter 2, Problem 26 2. Devore Chapter 2, Problem 30 3. Devore Chapter 2, Problem 35 4. Devore Chapter 2, Problem 38 5. In a survey of 120 students, the following data was obtained: 64 took math, 55 took Chemistry, 46 took Physics, 32 took math and Chemistry, 25 took Math and Physics, 18 took Chemistry and Physics, 12 students took all three subjects. (a) Find the number of students who took at least one of the three subjects . (b) Of those who took math, nd the proportion (probability) who took neither Chemistry nor Physics. (c) Of those who took Physics or Chemistry, nd the proportion (probability) who also took math. 6. A company delivers daily lots of N = 90 items to a manufacturer. A particular lot contains 4 major defective items, 6 minor defective items and the remaining items meet customer specications. A random sample of size n = 9 items is selected from this lot without replacement. (a) Find the probability that the sample contains exactly 2 major and 3 minor defective items. (b) For the same random sample of size n = 9, nd the probability that it contains at most two defective (major or minor) items. 7. One box contains six red balls and four green balls, and a second box contains seven red balls and three green balls. A ball is randomly chosen from the rst box and placed in the second box, and then a ball is chosen at random from the second box. The ball chosen from box 2 is observed to be green. Find the probability that the ball transferred from the 1st box to the 2nd box was green. 8. Suppose we know that at a given time, 0.1% of the students at UA have strep throat. Further we have a test for strep throat that gives out 1% false negatives and 2% false positives. What is the probability that a randomly selected student at UA has strep throat given they test positive? 9. Devore Chapter 2, Problem 60 10. Devore Chapter 2, Problem 71 11.
