Luilly Arias Ms.Tian English-110 10-2-12 Response to How It Feels to Be Colored Me How It Feels to Be Colored Me is about a proud black girl, that loathes being black. I disagree with the narrator in almost everything. I disapprove with her out look towards white people of her era. I believe that Zora admires the white race. Zora said she lived in an all-black town, in which Northerners would pass by to observe the town. The inhabitants would also observe the Northerners; some individuals were more daring than others. Zora was more daring that the others, she would get up close to them to entertain them. They would pay her for her to dance and sing, they treated her like a servant, but she would gladly do for free. She wanted to get close to them to admire them. Throughout the essay Zora has a negative tone towards her skin color. In the beginning of the six paragraph mentions she isnt tragically colored. Zora meant by her statement is that she isnt too dark, and that being too dark is a bad thing. Therefore by her reasoning being white is good thing. Zora also envys the white life style, she mentions that her white neighbor has easier than her. Zora mentions his servants, and the little stress he goes through. She wouldnt mention it without wanting to be as well off as him. Zora doesnt see slavery as a huge mistake, she sees it as something they had to pay. She says that
