METABOLOMICS: a set of new analytical technologies to study the world of small molecules in biological systems Summary to validate formation

Although metabolomics has been considered as a tool which can be used to quantify all the molecules in a biological system, we can just refer to it as the study of as-many-small-metabolites-as-possible in a system. This only became possible as a result of recent technological progress in small molecule separation and identification. It also has been important the compilation of databases containing descriptive and spectral information on molecules found in different metabolomes. Developments in informatics, flux analysis and biochemical modeling are adding new dimensions to this field. Metabolomics has the promise to enable detection of disease states and their progression, monitor response to therapy, stratify patients, and highlight targets for drug design. It also has emerged as an important tool in many other disciplines, such as plant physiology, food industry and nutrition.
