1.1

General
Introduction

A. This part specifies the general requirements for Electric motors. It shall be read in conjunction with other parts of the Contract Documentation. B. The work shall include the interim, detailed and final design, manufacturer, supply, installation, supervision of own work and test & commissioning of all Electric motors including all necessary accessories and coordination work as shown on the drawings and specified in relevant specifications or proposed by the Contractor's design, and as herein specified, and to the satisfaction of the Engineer. C. The work consists of Electric motors with the following components, but not limited to: 1. 2. Three phase Electric motors. Applications for three phase Electric motors with Variable speed controllers (VSC's). Single phase Electric motors.

D. Electric Motor Efficiency shall be part of the selection principle. Depending on operating durations and times the Electric motors shall be capable of delivering power required by the driven machinery having efficiency, according to IBS IEC/TS 60034-31. E. Products shall be sourced either directly from manufacturer or from the manufacturer's authorised agent/dealer.

Product data

A. Submit the following according to the Employer's Requirements: 1. Complete and detailed information of all materials and equipment to be incorporated in the work. Detailed description and specifications, catalogues cuts, installation data, diagrams, dimensions, controls and any other data required to demonstrate compliance with the Employer's Requirements. Each item submitted shall be referenced to the applicable paragraph in the Specification. A point by point statement of compliance. The statement of compliance shall consist of a list of numbered paragraphs. Each specification paragraph shall be cross referenced to the page/drawing in the submittal on which the compliance is confirmed; the confirming data on the page/drawing shall be highlighted for ready identification. Where the proposed system complies fully, indicate by placing the word "comply" opposite the paragraph number. Where the proposed system does not comply, or accomplishes the stated function in a manner different from that described, provide a full description of the deviation. Where the full description of a deviation is not provided, it shall be assumed that the proposed system does not comply with the paragraph in question. Any submission that does not include a point by point statement of compliance as specified shall be disqualified. Manufacturers product literature and performance data, sufficient to verify compliance to specification requirements. 10. Maintenance manuals.

A. Submit the following according to the Employer's Requirements: 1. Updated construction issue drawings modified to accurately reflect the installation of each Electric motor as installed on site.

Spare parts

A. Provide spare parts for 2 years operation for all Electric motors supplied under this Contract, but as a minimum the following: 1. Brushes. 5 % of total, but a minimum of 5 sets for each type and size installed on site. Bearings. 5 % of total, but a minimum of 3 sets for each type and size installed on site. Thermistors. 5 % of total, but a minimum of 3 sets for each type and size installed on site. Centrifugal switches. 5 % of total, but a minimum of 3 sets for each type and size installed on site.

Warranties and Guarantees

A. The Contractor shall provide all Warranty and Guarantee Certificates in accordance with the Employer's Requirements. B. Defects Liability Period: 1. The Contractor shall include for all maintenance procedures in accordance with the manufacturers requirements during the defects liability period and shall prepare a comprehensive schedule of maintenance procedures that shall be carried out. The Contractor shall provide an exhaustive quantified schedule of maintenance spares for this period, and these spares shall be in addition to any spares stated elsewhere within this specification, or stated within the Employer's Requirements. The Contractor shall submit a detailed and thorough programme confirming when these maintenance procedures are due to be carried out and the frequency of these maintenance intervals.

The Schedule of Maintenance procedures, Maintenance Spares together with the Maintenance Programme shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval in accordance with the Employer's Requirements.

2.1

Product Specification and Functional Description


General

A. The work includes complete delivery, installation and test and commissioning of all Electric motors, unless otherwise indicated. B. Present specification for Electric motors is valid for all Electric motors including Pre-Installed Motors, which reference to Electric motors installed by manufacturer as a component of equipment and Field-Installed Motor which refer to Electric motors installed at site. C. The Contractor shall determine exact component demands for all Electric motors, based on the demand of the actual final design. D. Electric Motors capacity and torque characteristics shall be rated for the application required and sufficient to start, accelerate, and operate connected loads at designated speeds, in indicated environment, with indicated operating sequence, and without exceeding nameplate ratings. Electric motors shall be rated for continuous duty where required. E. Electric motors shall be adapted to the installation conditions and environment at the placing of the Electric motors, including, but not limited to: 1. 2. 3. 4. F. Normal operation. Locked-rotor torque. Starting load. Environmental conditions found at the placing of the Electric motor.

with IEC 60034 and have main dimensions according to IEC 60072, 60072A and EN50347. H. Electric Motor Efficiency shall be part of the selection principle, for the Electric motors. Depending on operating times the Electric motors shall be capable of delivering the power required by the driven machinery. I. Features and sizes for Electric motors shall be coordinated with the requirements of the mechanical equipment/installed units, as well as accessory devices and features for protection and control. Electric motors shall be supplied with enclosure protection class IP 54, and connection terminal boxes shall as a minimum be classed at IP 55.

K. In locations where the Electric motors are exposed to weather, Electric motor shale employ IP rating of IP 55 and terminal boxes shall employ IP rating of IP 65. L. The Electric motors shall be provided with ball or roller bearings built into the end shields. Grease valves shall be easily accessible. M. In the design of the Electric motor protection it shall be considered if the surrounding temperature is substantially higher than the temperature at the operating site/the site were the Electric motor protection is installed. N. Electric motors shall be selected with low starting current. O. All Electric motors exposed to weather shall be of the totally enclosed fan cooled or totally enclosed air-over types. P. Electric motor used with Variable speed controllers shall be inverter rated. Ratings, characteristics, and features shall comply and shall be coordinated with and approved by Variable speed controller manufacturer and designed with critical vibration frequencies outside operating range of controller output.

Q. Multispeed Electric motors shall have separate winding for each speed. R. For applications requiring Electric motor 100 kW they shall be provided with unit at idle heating. The heating elements shall engage automatically when the Electric motor is not operating. Electric motor controlled by Variable speed controllers can utilise the Electric motor heat function built in the drives instead of using heating elements. S. Electric motor driven by Variable speed controllers shall be provided with 2 nos. of Pt100 or 2 nos. PTC thermal sensors (one for spare) in each phase. It shall be possible to adjust the release temperature.

T. For applications requiring Electric motors 100 kW bearings shall be provided with nipples for measurement of the bearing vibrations and shock

pulse measurement SMP. Equipment for permanent SMP measurement shall be delivered with the Electric motor and connected to the involved control system. U. Electric motors shall be finished in a durable and easy to clean external covering, including but not limited to the following: 1. Motor body shall be thoroughly prepared by chemically degreasing and sand blasting prior to painting Electric motor body. Chemical-resistant paint over a corrosion-resistant primer. Motor shall be available in a number of different RAL finishes. The Contractor shall submit a range of colour samples and finishes, final colour choice shall be by the Employer.

Three Phase Electric Motors

A. Electric motors larger than 0.63kW shall be three phase. B. Description: IEC 60034 and 60072, medium induction Electric motor. 1. Design Characteristics shall be IEC Standards, unless otherwise indicated. Premium energy efficiency - Class "effl", unless otherwise indicated. Classification in accordance with the definition set by the '"European Commission of Electric Machinery and Power Electronics Manufacturers". Stator windings shall be copper, unless otherwise indicated. Rotor shall be squirrel cage, unless otherwise indicated. Bearings shall be double-shielded, pre-lubricated ball bearings suitable for radial and thrust loading. Temperature rise shall match insulation rating, unless otherwise indicated. Insulation shall unless otherwise indicated, Class B for Electric motors located in air-conditioned spaces and Class F for Electric motors located outside or in non air-conditioned spaces.

C. Electric motors used with Reduced-Inrush Controllers shall match wiring connection requirements for indicated controller, with required motor leads brought to Electric motor terminal box to suit control method. Maximum permissible starting current shall be 5 times the Full Load Current (FLC).

D. Electric motor Used with Variable speed controllers shall have ratings, characteristics, and features coordinated with and approved by controller manufacturer. 1. Critical vibration frequencies are not within operating range of controller output. Temperature Rise: Match rating for Class F insulation. Insulation: Class F. Thermal Protection shall where indicated, conform to IEC requirements for thermally protected Electric motors.

E. Rugged-Duty Electric motors shall where required be totally enclosed with 1.15 minimum service factor, greased bearings, integral condensate drains, and capped relief vents. Windings are insulated with non-hygroscopic material.

Single-phase Electric motors

A. Electric motors less than or equal to 0.63kW shall be Single phase. B. Type shall be as indicated or selected by manufacturer from one of the following, to suit starting torque and other requirements of specific Electric motor application. 1. 2. 3. 4. Permanent-split capacitor. Split-phase start, capacitor run. Capacitor start, capacitor run. Insulation shall be unless otherwise indicated, Class B for Electric motors located in air-conditioned spaces and Class F for Electric motors located outside or in non air-conditioned spaces. Premium energy efficiency - Class "effl", unless otherwise indicated. Classification in accordance with the definition set by the '"European Commission of Electric Machinery and Power Electronics Manufacturers".

Thermal protection shall where indicated or required automatically opens power supply circuit to Electric motor when winding temperature exceeds a safe value calibrated to temperature rating of the Electric motor insulation. Thermal protection device shall automatically resets when Electric motor temperature returns to normal range, except in locations otherwise indicated.

D. Bearings shall be ball-bearing type for belt-connected Electric motors and other Electric motors with high radial forces on motor shaft. Sealed, prelubricated sleeve bearings for other single-phase Electric motors.

2.4

Start-up and Operating Conditions

A. Electric motors shall be capable of starting at 90 % of normal voltage, when connected to the driven machinery. B. Electric motors shall be capable of handling three immediately succeeding start-ups from cold condition and two immediately succeeding start-ups from a warm condition. C. Electric motors shall, without failure, be able to provide 100 % continuously rated output within 90-106 % of the rated voltage and at frequency conditions of 49-51 Hz.

3.1

Installation and Execution


General

A. The Electric motors shall be new, factory tested, and delivered ready for installation. B. The Contractor's installation shall ensure that final installation of all Electric motors is fully co-ordinated with aspects of building construction and with the work of other services. C. Electric motors shall be installed as shown on relevant drawings. D. Appropriate sunshade shall be installed above outdoor Electric motors to prevent direct heating from solar radiation.

Adjusting

A. Use adjustable Electric motor mounting bases for belt-driven Electric motors. B. Align pulleys and install belts. C. Tension according to manufacturers written instructions. D. Install cabling to Electric motors in coordinated distribution ways. Locate distribution ways close to Electric motor terminal box and use liquid tight conduits for final connection to Electric motor terminal box. E. Electric motor located in classified areas shall be installed in accordance with IEC recommendations for" Hazardous (classified) Locations".

Quality Control

Testing and Commissioning

A. Perform all test and commissioning in accordance to the Employer's Requirements, with special attention on, but not limited to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Factory Acceptance Test. Site and Systems Acceptance Test. Site Integration Test. Training of staff.

5.1

Factory Acceptance Test

A. The factory acceptance tests for Electric motors shall be carried out by the Electric motor manufacturer and shall be witnessed by the Engineer. B. Testing methods: The Engineer shall be notified of the method to be used for each type of test and notification shall be given in condition of the Contract, and shall conform to stipulations of IEC 60034. C. The Contractor shall inform the test date, time and location to the Engineer at least 4 weeks in advance to witness the test. The cost for travel, boarding, incidental expenses etc shall be included for the Employer's and the Engineers representatives (2 each). D. Testing of motors shall include tests carried out on running motor. E. Testing shall include the following tests, but not be limited to: 1. 2. 3. Insulation resistance. Measurement of stator resistance. No-load readings of current, speed and actual efficiency at rated voltage and frequency. 4. Over speed test 5. Control of bearings 6. Vibration test 7. Measurement of sound level (at 1 meter distance). 8. Locked rotor current at rated frequency. 9. High-potential test. 10. Alignment. 11. Temperature rise.

12. Measurement of rotor winding (single phase motors only). 13. Commutation test (single phase motors only). F. Where Electric motors 100 kW of identical design and rating are being supplied, only one unit shall be subjected to the full temperature rise test and Test certificates supplied for the duplicate units.

G. Test result shall be documented in an official test certificate. H. Type test certificate shall be delivered for all Electric motors unit.

5.2

Site and Systems Acceptance Test

A. The pretesting and Commissioning of all equipment shall be carried out by the equipment Manufacturer and shall be witnessed by the Engineer, prior to putting into service the equipment shall be demonstrated to the Engineer and Employer's representative, carrying out all necessary functional tests. B. Testing methods: The Engineer shall be notified of the method to be used for each type of test and notification shall be given in accordance with the Employer's Requirements. C. Ensure sufficient task lighting is available during all stages of site testing. D. Visual and Mechanical Inspections. Perform as a minimum the following: 1. Compare nameplates of equipment and detailed components with drawings, diagram and specified requirements, and report discrepancies. Check for proper anchorage, required clearances, physical damage, and proper alignment of components. Inspect panels and sections for paint, dents, scratches, fit and missing hardware. Verify that fuse and circuit breaker sizes, types, and ratings conform to requirements. Clean interior and exterior of all equipment using manufacturers approved methods and materials. Inspect insulators and cabling for evidence of physical damage and contaminated surfaces. Verify proper barrier and shutter installation and operation. Verify appropriate lubrication on moving and sliding surfaces.

Inspect mechanical indicating devices for proper operation.

Retest: Correct deficiencies identified by tests and observations and completely retest switchgear. Verify by the system tests that the total assembly meets specified requirements.

G. Thermal imaging of Electric motors and connection points shall be carried out as part of the final commissioning process to verify, all connections are electrically sound. Produce report of connections with areas of high or abnormal Difference of Temperature (DT): 1. Electric motors shall be operating at maximum design load, to establish a baseline measurement against normal operating conditions. Capture thermal images of all switchboard connections that have higher DT than other similar connections under similar loads. Thermal images of connections exceeding 15 C DT between similar components and connections exceeding 40 C DT and ambient air under similar loading conditions shall be saved. Connections exceeding aforementioned DT shall be disassembled, cleaned/repaired and reassembled. Retest to verify problem has been eliminated. If problem persisted utilise other tests methods to establish normal DT operation at connection. Submit detailed report for each imaging test performed including thermal and digital images. Reports shall be structured to allow test tracking over time and shall include, but not be limited to: a) b) c) d) e) Imaging equipment details Thermal imaging equipment calibration certificate Electric motor equipment reference number Date time of test Recommendations (pass, areas of concern, fail etc).

5.3

Site Integration Test

A. The Contractor shall undertake system-wide integrated testing in accordance with the General Requirements.

5.4

Training of staff

A. The Contractor shall implement a comprehensive system-wide training programme for selected/appointed Employer's personnel for all aspects of Electric motors. B. The Contractor shall provide for all aspects and requirements for training sessions. A written outline and agenda of the training material and full contents shall be submitted for Employer's approval. C. The training shall include, but not limited to: 1. Classroom based written and visual media instruction and site based operation of the said plant. Cover all operating features of the plant and interconnected system.

D. Training shall be performed by experienced and competent training personnel, familiar with the system and training techniques. The Contractor shall submit for approval the CV/Resume of all training personnel. E. Training and all training materials shall be offered in bilingual languages; Arabic and English. F. Training literature shall be presented in bound printed documents, all graphs, pictures and diagrams shall be in colour. Each participant attending training sessions shall have literature presented according to training presentation (see item 5.4.K).

G. The number of training sessions and number of Employer's attendees/participants shall be as indicated in the Electrical Particular Specifications. Document No. SE-300-E-11300 Particular Electrical Specification. H. The Contractor shall provide a suitable classroom environment; based for a class size of 20 people at any one training session. I. Plant and equipment utilised in the classroom environment shall be the same; manufacture, model and type as installed at site. Training sessions shall be scheduled at the convenience of the Employer.
