Job Description

Position: Communications & Referrals Officer Supervisor: Executive Director Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications and Referrals Officer is responsible for disseminating information to people seeking assistance, related to various areas of concern. This requires assessing the needs of the clients and referring them to the appropriate agency for the provision of services. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required: Consult with clients of the Centre requiring assistance, assess their needs and refer them to the appropriate agency or service provider. Develop and maintain linkages with agencies through attendance at meetings, i.e. TAAN, focus groups, agency AGMs and other gatherings to increase knowledge and availability of the services/programs to assist clients. Develop and implement the system for collection of statistical data based on the logic model (PEOD). Submit monthly report that includes statistical and activity information to Executive Director. Provide information directly to client/community members through brochure/pamphlet distribution, faxes, emails, newsletters, online and walk-ins when feasible. Responsible for daily maintenance of the community bulletin board, i.e. job postings, housing, other info Responsible for the timely distribution/promotion of NCCT information internal and external. i.e. Job Postings, Events, Announcements Coordination of training sessions and or make staff aware of them. Ensure that information regarding issues of interest to the community are available and is provided through such vehicles as information sessions, workshops and newsletters Write articles updating community on events, community interests etc for the NCCT newsletter, The Native Canadian. Liaise with the Membership/Volunteer department to plan promote and coordinate special events and fundraising for the United Way campaign as well as NCCT fundraising events.

Responsible for overseeing the month newsletter is distributed effectively. Promote a favorable and professional image of the Centre and the Aboriginal community. Coordinate and conduct tours of Centre. Coverage of Reception area and phones from 12:00pm-1:00pm when not on outreach or attending special events or meetings Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications: Through knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal people, culture, history and traditions. Proven ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage workload. Excellent verbal, written and communication skills Ability to write reports and general correspondence Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff and community members Computer Literate & Knowledge of Microsoft Office Flexible and able to work unscheduled hours for special events held by the Centre.
