FAULTS

Why is the circuit breaker voltage equal to the bus voltage during a fault calculation? What about resistive and inductive effects? Resistance between the bus and the breaker is neglected. The inductance cannot be neglected, due to the magnitude of the change in current. However, when the maximum fault current occurs, di/dt=0 and so the inductance has no effect.
