Training on Mainstreaming Disability Aurat Foundation, Peshawar 15th November, 2012 to18th November, 2012 As a part of initiatives for mainstreaming disability concerns in emergencies CHEF International and Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP) both member organizations of Aging and Disability Task Force(ADTF) in collaboration with the ICCO & KiA delivered a comprehensive four day training to the staff of Aurat Foundation ,Peshawar from 15 th to 18th November 2012. The training is a part of the interventions under the project Capacity Building Of Humanitarian/Development Actors on Disability. The project aims at building the capacity of of selected humanitarian/developmental organizations (partners of ICCO & Kirk in Actie) for inclusive emergency response and inclusive rehabilitation phase. The training was delivered to 10 participants from the KPK staff of Aurat Foundation. The topics covered included basics of disability, models of disability, disability movement , United Nations convention on rights of persons with disability(UNCRPD),disability framework in Pakistan, Inclusive Disaster risk reduction and ADTF technical guidelines for inclusive WASH, Health and shelter. Aging and Disability Task Force (ADTF) facilitated the training by providing the ADTF technical guidelines for inclusive health , WASH and shelter as well as providing other content related to disability concerns in emergencies. The comprehensive training sensitized the participants on mainstreaming disability and highlighting the needs of person with disabilities in disasters and emergencies. The training also presented an opportunity to develop understanding among the participants on issues related to persons with disabilities in emergencies including accessibility and health concerns. During the sessions minimum standards were appropriately defined to the participants keep in view the needs of person with disabilities especially in emergency situations . The training was overall successful in achieving its objectives that was mainly capacity building of participants on disability concerns and needs during emergencies and making efforts for an inclusive environment.
