April 2010 Overview Monthly Newsletter Grade 1 Kids continue to experiment with spacethey learn how characters overlapping,

changing size and even confined in a relatively small area affects the space in their composition and in turn alters the form of their image. Show depth from overlapping layered grounds. Illusion of depth upon crowded characters in a confined space. Grade 2 (Commencing mid of April) Introduction to 2-D animation: Kids will be taught to convert their two-dimensional art into an animated film. During this process they will have to imagine how their characters will move against the background. Flip Book: Making sequential drawings to suggest motion. Film: Once their characters and backgrounds are made, kids will experience the filming of their animations using camera and maybe some editing in animation software. Grade 3 Kids learn to build three-dimensional models from flat two-dimensional images: making sculptures. They are encouraged to think about form with mass and volume, experiencing tactile signals first and a visual perception later. Kids will make sculptures from binding wire, paper mache and plaster of paris. With binding wire and paper mache kids learn that by adding volume, a structure gains mass and dimension while with plaster of paris they learn to displace mass to create a desired structure. Grade 5 Kids will pick a topic of their interest and visually interpret the subject in 4 different ways. They are welcome to make as many variations as they please since this project will span for the rest of the academic year. The challenge here is to alter the form, color, texture and maybe even the space occupied by an object. Each variation must be distinctively different from the previous solution. Choice of medium and execution may vary from sculpture to animation. There are no limitations on the use of material or technique. Such a task exerts risk taking and experimentation teaching endurance and resourcefulness.
