We have completed our benchmark poll, and wanted to provide you with a brief overview of our findings City Controller Wendy Greuel has a narrow lead over the field in the March primary election. Wendy begins with a two-point lead over her nearest competitor, City Councilman Eric Garcetti, with other candidates such as Kevin James and Jan Perry trailing by a wide margin. While the race remains open because of the large number of undecided voters (44%), Greuel has the inside track in qualifying for a likely May run-off election.

If the election for Los Angeles Mayor were held today and the candidates were Wendy Greuel, Los Angeles City Controller; Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Council Member; Jan Perry, Los Angeles City Councilwoman; Kevin James, Radio Broadcaster and Attorney; Emanuel Alberto Pleitez, Technology Company Executive; for whom would you vote, or are you undecided?

Lake Research Partners conducted live telephone interviews with 803 likely March 2013 primary election voters in the city of Los Angeles, December 5-9, 2012. The margin of sampling error is +/-3.5 %.

Wendy Greuel for Mayor Polling Memo

Greuel is viewed favorably by Los Angeles voters and is seen as doing a good job as City Controller. Wendy has an extremely strong 6-to-1 favorable to unfavorable ratio among the voters familiar with her. As she becomes better known, her lead over Garcetti is likely to increase. Importantly, among voters who know both Garcetti and Greuel, Greuel has a double-digit lead. The demographic profile of undecided voters is favorable for Greuel. The demographic groups that are disproportionately undecided at this point tend to be favorably disposed toward Greuel (such as women, who make up 58% of undecided voters). With the financial means necessary to introduce herself to these key segments of the electorate, Greuel will be in a strong position to finish first in the March primary.
