A roof support system is to be designed for 6m wide, coal mining entry at a depth of 100 m. Following parameters are known: a. U.C.S = 70 Mpa b. R.Q.D = 70% c. Spacing of discontinuities = 1m d. Conditions of discontinuities Persistence=4m Aperture=0.5mm Slightly rough surfaces Moderately weathered walls e. Ground water = 40litres/minute f. Orientation of joints = Favourable Evaluate total RMR value and classify the rock mass. Determine the stand-up time of the tunnel. How the stress on square pillar in room-andpillar mining method is evaluated using Tributary Area Approach? Derive its mathematical relationship. Determine the stability of roof rock of the excavation using stereographic projection. Three joint sets are occurring in the rock mass having the following orientations: Joint set I = 030o/70o Joint set II = 230o/60o Joint set III = 320o/70o Give the classification of underground mining methods.
