Descriptions of Courses

This course deals with brain-inspired artificial neural networks for the data clustering/mining, classification, and prediction based on the brain information processing mechanism. After comparing several network architectures, we will introduce Hebbian learning rule as the basis of biological adaptive learning. Then, we will move to the artificial neural network models with the neuron model, feedforward architecture, and learnig rules. Both unsupervised and supervised learning rules are presented for the data clustering and pattern recognition, respectively. Artificial neural networks with recurrent architectures will also be discussed for time-series prediction and adaptive controls. Textbook: S. Haykin, Neural Networks and Learning Machines (3rd Edition), Prentice Hall, 2008.
