History:

South Eastern Coalfields Limited is the largest coal producing company in the country. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (A Govt. of India Undertaking) under the Ministry of Coal .The company has its head office at Bilaspur and mines spread over Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh. It has total 92 Mines. Total Underground Mines are 70 and total Opencast mines are 21. There is 1 mixed mine.[3]It is a schedule 'B' Mini Ratna CPSE in coal & lignite under the administrative control of Ministry of Coal[4] The Company came in to existence in 1985, when Government of India, decided to bifurcate a part of coal mines held by Western Coalfields Limited in to new company called South Eastern Coalfields Limited, along with Central Coalfields Limited, which was bifurcated in to Northern Coalfields Limited, for administrative purpose.[5][6] The company was adjudged the best PSU in the country for 97-98 and was awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial National Award for pollution control and energy conservation in the year 2003, Excellence award in 2004 ,2006 and 2008,National safety award from Hon'ble President of India in 2004,2005 and 2006. SECL has been awarded " Mini Ratna" Status by Govt of India in 2007 . In year 2011-12,total coal production by SECL from open cast and underground mines was 113.84 million tonnes out of total coal production of 435.84 million tonnes produced by Coal India Ltd.which is highest among all subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd and among all coal producing companies in India.SECL has been making profits since its inception. How coal net introduced: Basically Computers were introduced in SECL in early1980s and its main purpose over the years was to ease out the tedious task of Payroll. With the advent of PCs and development in technology it was decided to use the computing power of computers in many other fields of importance in SECL; the result was COALNET which is probably one of the best ERP package being developed and implemented.

Subsidiary situated at different dispersed location of India . Functionalities covered in this application are Finance, Production, Personnel, Project, Materials, Payroll, Sales & Marketing, Equipment and customized modules like VVIP, Grievance and Parliament Affairs. This Application also provides a B2B portal and Geographical Information System (GIS). COALNET has been designed to provide a web based - platform independent, integrated application software system to revolutionize information management in Coal India adding substantially to organizational management and competitiveness of COAL INDIA.

functionality to run the business process smoothly and efficiently. 2:Ease out the tedious task of Payroll i.e information of employees regarding salaries,T.A,D.A maintained in well built database instead of recording in seperate files. 3:Decrease the wastage of time and help in drawing plans which in turn increase the productivity of coal and profit of the company. 4:Reduce redundacy of data. 5: Helps in Managing every sector of the company in a well organize way. 6: Reduce mistakes and corruption upto well extent. 7: increase the accesiblity between S.E.C.L headquarter & colliaries.
