This is Maggie, an adorable 7 month old Pomeranian.

Maggie came in to the emergency room for vomiting and drooling (which can be a sign of nausea). She was very subdued when she got here, not like a typical puppy. We took x-rays of Maggies abdomen and we were able to rule out an obstruction in her GI tract. This is somewhat common in puppies because they like to eat things they shouldnt. We also ruled out some metabolic causes for vomiting with bloodwork. So, we rehydrated Maggie with IV fluids and treated her with anti-nausea drugs. She improved greatly with treatment and happily returned home. Nausea, with or without vomiting, is a common presenting complaint in our emergency room. Drooling, lip smacking, and food aversion are some signs of nausea in both dogs and cats. Patients that are vomiting can become dehydrated quickly and suffer electrolyte imbalances. Vomiting is a symptom of many diseases so it is important for patients who are vomiting to be seen by a veterinarian."
