Mims Class Shared Reading

This week our shared reading books all have the common theme of buttons. On Monday, we read Corduroy, a teddy bear who has lost his button on his overalls. We have read The Button Box and completed an activity of describing the buttons with adjectives. Bunches of Buttons was also read to help with counting by tens and describing objects. A chapter out of the book Frog and Toad, The Lost Button, was also read. The children categorized and listed the buttons in the book.

Make sure to help your child gather their 100 items for their collection. We need these by Wednesday! Also, keep working on writing 100 words!!!

Theme
We continued our research on Sea Stars this week. We filled in our KWL, labeled the parts of a sea star and began our fact book pages. We also began constructing a sea star!

Yellow Pod Notes

We will be going to the Auburn High School Aquatics Lab on Thursday January 24th. Please make sure that your child is dressed in comfortable, weather appropriate clothes and tennis shoes. It would be nice to have everyone wear their AEEC tshirt for easy identification.

Math Journal
We have been working on several activities to go in our math journal. The students have completed a grab and count. They are also completing a sorting, grouping, and classifying activity with buttons. They are given a handful of buttons and sort them into groups. They then tell how and why they sorted them that distinct way. Students have been sorting based on color, size, number of holes, and shapes.

If you have any empty egg cartons, please send them to school! We will be using these for several activites. Enjoy the long weekend!!! Laura Mims llmims@auburnschools.org
