When the motor works in quadrants 2 or 4 it works as a generator transforming the mechanical energy into electric one. The generated current flows by the transistor diodes towards the direct current bus. This current increases the voltage level of the DC BUS. When the level exceeds a specific threshold, a transistor unloads the energy through an external resistance. Unloading this energy produces the motor braking. The minimum ohm value of the resistance cannot be exceeded The average dissipated power depends on the duty cycle of the machine (cf. catalog)
