    Stable: (A & B) are equally competent 4. a social phenomenon (Behaviorism) Competence differs from person to person An innate psychological aspect changeable: (A) may be more competent than (B) biological and genetically inherited faculty (Mentalism)

    Similarities: 1. Saussure sees langage as the faculty of speech which consists of langue and parole likewise Chomsky sees language as the faculty of speech which consists of competence and performance. 2. Lange and competence are abstract; parole and performance concrete. 3. Both linguists regard language as a system and ignore the individual speech acts.
