Ready for PET will get you ready for this test in three important ways. First, it will give you practice in doing the kinds of exercises you will do in the test. Then, it will give you advice on how you can do your best in these exercises. Finally, it will help you learn the vocabulary you need to do the writing and speaking exercises fluently. In this way, you can feel confident about your English when you do the test. You can use Ready for PET in your English class with your teacher, or you can use it to get ready for the ‘test by yourself. What is the Preliminary English Test (PET)? The University of Cambridge has tests for students of English at five different levels, from beginners to very advanced students. PET is at level 2 and is for lower intermediate students. PET tests your reading, writing, listening and speaking. You get 25% of the total marks for the test for each of these four skills. There are three different papers. Paper 1 is Reading and Writing and takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. In this paper, there are five reading parts and three writing parts. In the reading part of the paper, you have to read some texts and answer some questions on each one. For these questions, you answer by choosing A, B, C, or D. In the writing part of the paper, you have to do a short grammar exercise, fill in a form and then write a letter.
