What must be maintained at what intervals?

SAP AG

The individual technical objects must be maintained at different intervals. For example, an external visual inspection for rust and water-tightness is performed on the water pumps at your company each month. However, the wear in the gear box is only checked once every year. From the different maintenance intervals (for example, monthly, yearly), a maintenance strategy can be put together which can be used to plan and perform maintenance easily and efficiently.

Package definition

SAP AG

The maintenance strategy consists of several maintenance packages and represents the scheduling rule for preventive maintenance. Task lists can be assigned to maintenance strategies. The scheduling indicator determines the scheduling type. Examples: - Time-based - Time based using key date - Time-based according to factory calendar - Performance/activity based

Any number of maintenance packages can be assigned to a maintenance strategy. It should be noted here that the maintenance packages for a strategy should not have different cycle units (for example, month, year). A strategy consisting of one month and one year should be defined as one month and twelve months.

Maintenance packages define the frequency at which specific operations are executed. Maintenance packages can be assigned to the operations for a task list. Maintenance packages are part of a maintenance strategy. The important parameters of a maintenance package are: Maintenance package number Description Cycle length Unit of measurement Hierarchy If two maintenance packages are due at the same time, the hierarchy defines which maintenance package is performed.

Offset The offset determines the first due date of a maintenance package. Preliminary/follow-up buffer The preliminary or follow-up buffer specifies in days the tolerance over which the start and finish dates for a maintenance package can range. Note: If you set one of the two buffers to 0, the planned date can still be seen later in the order.

The hierarchy of maintenance packages defines whether all maintenance packages that coincide should be executed, or whether certain maintenance packages should be dropped. To decide this, a hierarchy level is assigned to each maintenance package. If maintenance packages with the same hierarchy level coincide, these maintenance packages are executed. In the case of maintenance packages with different hierarchy levels, the maintenance package with the lower level is dropped.

Task lists can be created for use in preventive maintenance. To prepare task lists for use in strategy plans, the following steps are required: A strategy is defined in the task list header. Maintenance packages must then be assigned to different operations for the task list. In this way, the frequency with which the operations should be executed is defined.

When a time-based strategy plan is created, the corresponding strategy is first assigned to it. A task list is selected in order to define the operations for the object to be maintained. It is also possible to create a general maintenance task list from the maintenance plan.

The cycle modification factor is one of the scheduling parameters of the maintenance plan. The cycle modification factor can be used to extend or shorten the maintenance cycle, for example to react to temporary additional requirements without changing the actual maintenance cycle. The cycle modification factor is only valid for the maintenance plan in which it has been defined.

Summary (1)
The maintenance strategy represents the

scheduling rule for the work to be performed. A strategy consists of several maintenance packages.
Maintenance packages define the frequency

at which an operation is performed.

The maintenance strategy is defined in the

task list header. It must correspond to the strategy selected in the maintenance plan.
