WHAT ARE INDEPENDENT ENQUIRERS?


Independent enquirers process and evaluate information in investigations, planning what to do and how to go about it. They take informed and well reasoned decisions, recognising that others have different beliefs and attitudes.

INDEPENDENT ENQUIRERS WILL


Identify questions to answer and problems to resolve Plan and carry out research, appreciating the consequences of decisions

Explore issues, events or problems from different perspectives


Analyse and evaluate information, judging its relevance and value

PROPOSED TIMETABLE 09:00-10:40 PROBLEM SOLVING


Potential activities may include Egg towers: Working in groups students build a structure to hold an egg at least 1 .5 metres high. Marshmallow tower: Working in groups students seen who can build the tallest structure. Each group gets 1 packet of spaghetti strands and 1 packet of marshmallows. Soggy umbrella: Students have to create an umbrella using half a newspaper and a set amount of cello tape. The umbrella will have 1 bucket of water poured on top and it has to keep the person holding it dry. Bridge too far: Students working in groups build bridges to see which one can withstand the most weight. Clueless: Students have to follow clues round the school ground to put together a word or phrase.

13:30-15:10 DRAGONS DEN


Students have to design and create a device which will protect an egg from an 8ft drop. Students will be allocated a budget where they can choose which materials to use. Students will have to pitch their creation to a panel of teachers Students will then test their design.
