of the Planets Content Objective: SWBAT list in correct order all the planets going away from the sun, without using notes. Language Objective: -SWBAT express in writing his or her own thinking and ideas. (ELL-W-1). -SWBAT express orally his or her own thinking and ideas. (ELL-L&S-1) -SWBAT listen actively to the ideas of others in order to acquire new knowledge. Sub-Objectives Each student can write down two things we observed yesterday. Blooms level: knowledge

Teaching Strategies Bellwork: What did you observe yesterday? Describe at least 2 things. Stamp completed work that shows effort -Review mnemonic definition -Show example for solar system --point out Pluto -Give out puzzles -Walk between teams

Active Student Participation -Students will answer the bellwork question on their bellwork sheet

Each student will write down a mnemonic they made for the 8 planets Blooms level: comprehension, synthesis

-Students will participate in discussion about mnemonics -Students will make their own mnemonic for the 8 planets -Students will put together puzzles in teams

10 min

Working as a team, students can solve a solar system puzzle Blooms level: knowledge, comprehension

5 min

Working as a team, students can label the solar system puzzle Blooms level: knowledge, comprehension

-Ensure students have post-its

-Students will use post-its to label the planets in the puzzle

15 min

Each student will record the circular diagram of the solar system that the puzzle depicts, in their notebooks. Blooms level: Knowledge

-Help teams as needed

-Students will record in their notebooks the circular diagram of the solar system puzzle with labeled planets

2 min

Each student will list, in correct order, all of the planets going away from the sun, without using notes. Blooms level: Knowledge

Closer- Exit slips -give each student 30 seconds with their notes, then have them put notes away. -have them list the planets

-Students will put away their notes and then, on an exit slip, list the 8 planets in order, away from the sun

Materials needed: -Teacher created: Bellwork slide Visual direction slide Solar system puzzle
