talk about the "Stone City” the
Waipous Forest
This isa total mystery.
That there are stone walls, fireplaces,
altars and other constructions made
from stone scattered over a wide area
ofthe Waipoua Forest appears tobe
accepted. James Maxwell, who was the
custodian ofthe Forest from 1900 to
1920 wrote in his journal thatthe stone
constructions were “widespread and of
iernational significance”
But they have hardly rated with other
iconic New Zealand landmarks, man-
made or natural. In fact, they appear to

This was an expensive and extensive
survey carried out by two highly
cgarded archaeologists and now it’s
