UPDATE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Agenda Item J-3 September 15, 2006

The PeopleSoft Student, Human Resources, and Contributor Relations System was successfully upgraded to the latest version (PeopleSoft 8.9) over the July 4 holiday weekend. This successful upgrade was the culmination of months of work by KCTCS functional users and technical support staff, ably led by Mr. Paul Czarapata of the KCTCS System IT staff. This version of PeopleSoft offers a greatly improved user interface for KCTCS students and employees, and it has a number of improvements in the display and security of confidential data. In addition, KCTCS used this opportunity to reengineer a number of processes, resulting in a more stable and flexible application platform. KCTCS entered into an agreement with Cincinnati Bell Technology Systems and Cisco to implement the Cisco Clean Access System at all KCTCS sites throughout the state. This system will automatically check that any computer (whether wired or wireless) logging into the KCTCS network has the most current virus protection and system updates installed. If a computer does not have the latest patches or fixes, it will be quarantined off the network; and the Clean Access System will attempt to apply the latest software updates (which would include Microsoft Critical and Anti-Virus updates). Implementation of this project will begin in September, and all KCTCS sites will be protected by December 2006. In July 2006, the 56 domain controllers located at KCTCS campuses across the state, which make up the KCTCS Active Directory infrastructure, were replaced with new hardware and software. The new hardware and software will allow the Active Directory infrastructure to keep up with the increasing number of students and staff who need to authenticate for Enterprise (Blackboard, Docushare, and PeopleSoft) and local college IT resources. Currently, there are over 300,000 Active Directory and 120,000 email accounts. The roll out of the new domain controllers will allow KCTCS to continue forward with a healthy, secure, and supportable Active Directory infrastructure for all applications and services that rely upon it.
