Remember we are focusing on language that creates atmosphere and tension. TASK: Write a short list poem to capture how Jim is feeling.

By the end of this lesson I will be able to: ask questions about a characters role in a story. use my imagination to answer questions in a role. use the ideas from acting in a role, to plan and write a diary entry for that character.

LO: To use drama techniques to explore a character and write in a role. ACTIVITY- Mind map- ideas for a diary entry. Describe what happened to her after Jims family arrived at the Big House: Why did she lose her job? What happened to Jims sisters? How does she feel about seeing Jim again?

Writing a diary entry in a role: How to be really successful! 1) Use the right language- think about the way the character talks. 2) Write in the first person. 3) Write in the past tense. 4) Date of the diary entry. 5) Writing in chronological order. 6) Write about your feelings.

LO: To use evidence from the text to collect information about a character and their feelings. Activity: Re-read page 101-107 in groups. Draw an outline sketch of Shrimps on sugar paper. Around outline, write what Shrimps looks like and what others think of him- from the text. Inside his figure, write how you think Shrimps might be feeling i.e. his wish for a brother. Success Criteria: 1.Use the evidence in the text. 2.Work collaboratively.
