Background Information: Author: James the brother of Jesus Date: Most likely written before A.D. 61 when James was martyred. James was probably one of the first New Testament books written. Purpose: James is writing to instruct and encourage the believers who have left Jerusalem after Stephens martyrdom (Acts 8:1). These people are now separated from him & the other apostles so he's encouraging them to make necessary changes in their lives, both individually and corporately.
