C O N T E N T I D M A T C H Copyright strike: Occurs when a serious copyright violation is discovered within your video. Generally, your channel cannot be partnered if it has a valid copyright strike. Content ID match: Occurs when a long scene or Music is matched to the company that created it . This may be avoided by using commentary during long scenes or showing less than 30 seconds of a scene. You can be partnered with Content ID matches. The main ill effect is all revenue from that video goes to the Content ID owner, not you. B A D : I W O N ' T E N A B L E A D S , C A N I U P L O A D C O P Y R I G H T

FAIR USE
In general, if you change the original meaning by offering criticism, review or educational on the original work, it is fair use for you to use. But each production is viewed uniquely and there is no definite way to judge this, so always err on the side of caution. Ray William Johnson's videos are good examples of fair use. G O O D : P A R O D I E S A R E O K A Y I F . . . Parodies are okay if they are 100% original.
FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU W ERE TO PARODY A COMPANIES CONTENT IT IS FAIR USE.

I N F O : F A I R U S E Copyright disclaimer under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976: allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a? use

permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use to use in any of your videos.

B A D : R E M I X E S Remixes are not okay! Never use commercial songs, song clips or remixes. Your videos cannot contain any part of the original sound recording, even 1 second. Slowing down the original work, adding a techno beat, or even small parts of the original sound recording are not okay. B A D : C R E D I T T H E A R T I S T M A K E S I T O K A Y Someone said: "I have no copyright because I say who made the music with a link to where you can buy the music" Giving credit or buy now links to music does not make it copyright-free! B A D : C H A N G I N G P I T C H Someone said: "If you change the pitch one octave higher of ANY song (unless the lyrics are copyrighted, then that's a problem) you LEGALLY own the rights to the song! YouTube won't give you an issue about those people, since it's 100% Legal." This is 100% wrong! IF YOU REMIX ANY PART OF A COMMERCIAL SOUND RECORDING, THAT IS A COPYRIGHT STRIKE. CHANNEL
Why do you believe them? Many "non-copyright music" channels don't have written permission from the artists and mis-inform you into thinking their music is royalty-free for commercial purposes. Ask to see their written permission, otherwise don't use their music. G O O D : M U S I C W I T H P E R M I S S I O N I, [artist], give you permission to use my [music] royalty-free for commercial purposes. If [artist] sends you this email, you may use his [music] in your videos. "Royalty-free for commercial purposes" means you may show ads next to your videos and make money without paying a fee. The artist normally asks for credit in return. He gets free publicity, you get free music, win-win. B A D : O N L Y 8 S E C O N D S I S F I N E

WRONG! EVEN 1 SECOND OF A COPYRIGHT SONG IS NOT OKAY. G O O D : M U S I C W I T H A N E T W O R K T H A T H A S P E R M I S S I O N If you are part of a network, you may use music that network has written permission to use. For example, Proxxy Partners have permission to use this music: Any of the Music Done By the Following Artists: youtube.com/SceamMusic Youtube.com/PlanetAnnihilation youtube.com/50krump This is one of the benefits of being with Proxxy! G O O D : R O Y A L T Y - F R E E M U S I C F O R C O M M E R C I A L P U R P O S E S You can use any of the following royalty-free music for commercial purposes in your videos: http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ http://machinimasound.com http://www.entropymusic.com http://www.stockmusic.net http://www.musicbakery.com http://www.neosounds.com http://www.royaltyfreemusic.com http://www.music4yourvids.co.uk/pages/indexpag.html http://danosongs.com

G O O D : C R E A T I V E C O M M O N S L I C E N S E You may use content licensed under Creative Commons if you give attribution as the owner specifies. See http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Attribution generally means giving credit to the owner with a link to learn more. B A D : C O V E R S O N G S At this time, you cannot claim cover songs. G O O D : M U S I C Y O U M A K E If you create the music as a manipulation of the original work in a creative and innovative way, so that it changes the meaning, context or intended communication of the original work, it is fair use. For example: Super Mario music played on violin is fair use: For example: Minecraft Music Blocks used to play a song is fair use: B A D : F R E E D O W N L O A D You cannot use "free download" music from websites like SoundCloud without written permission from the owner. ITUNES HAS "FREE DOWNLOADS". DO YOU THINK THAT MEANS YOU CAN REUPLOAD THEM? NO!

B A D : L I C E N S E D M U S I C I N T H E P R O D U C T Do not use licensed commercial music even if it is in the product. In-game music is allowed, but only if that music is not licensed from an artist. If in-game songs are by Record Label Artists, they likely have contract deals with the game publisher, like EA, in protecting their material. There is a difference between game music composed by a game developer and music recorded by an artist and used in a game. Avoid the latter in your videos and livestreams. Rule of Thumb: Using music from EA Sports titles is a bad idea, since many of them have music by Record Label Artists. YouTube cannot distinguish between an Eminem song in a game and a pirated Eminem song.

B A D : M I X A N D M A T C H M U S I C You cannot mix and match music. For example: Do not use music or sounds from one game in a video about another game. B A D : S A M P L I N G M U S I C Sampling is not a legitimate method of producing music. For example, do not upload videos lof a song remix that contains Katy Perry's voice: All tracks you upload must be 100% owned by whoever is giving you permission to upload them. G O O D : G A M E T R A I L E R S W I T H C O M M E N T A R Y Game content is an exception because the video game industry generally encourages spreading their content, as long as it is not the original content. G O O D : M U S I C T H A T C O M E S W I T H T H E P R O D U C T It is okay to use music that comes with a product in videos about that product. For example, Subdivisions by Rush is in the game Rock Band 3: BUT, IF A GAME LETS YOU ADD YOUR OWN MUSIC TO IT, THAT IS NOT OKAY! THE MUSIC MUST COME WITH THE GAME. G O O D : F U L L G A M E T R A I L E R S I F . . . You cannot post full game trailers, but you can post full trailers with commentary. But what if the full trailer is contained between your work? Rule of Thumb: If your original work is as long as the actual trailer, it is okay. At least half needs to be your work, not the trailer. If you just say "Hey, watch this cool trainer" (play trailer) "Hope you liked that!" it is not okay. Note: Do not start your video with the trailer! Start with your original work or commentary, otherwise you mislead viewers into thinking your video is the official trailer. B A D : R E A L - L I F E S P O R T S Never upload real-life sports videos, such as: NBA (basketball) NFL (football) NHL (hockey)

WWE (wrestling) Sports clips are not okay, not even a few seconds! B A D : D I S C U S S T H E C L I P Adding commentary does not make it okay. Companies pay big licensing fees to show sports clips in their videos! B A D : N O T V , M O V I E S O R T R A I L E R S Never upload TV or movie content or trailers, including commercials! If you didn't make it, or you don't have permission from the owner, do not upload it! G O O D : C O M M E R C I A L S I N N E W S If you are reporting the news, and as part of your video you show a commercial, that is okay.
