Mrs Pittman's Syrup Cookies (Molasses Cookies) Mrs. Pittman was Uncle Rafael's mother.

Rafael was Frank Pittman's dad. They lived at Sweetwater on a farm. (We visited once when you were little) 1 cup shortening 3 eggs, well beaten 1 cup sugar 4 cups flour 1 cup molasses syrup 4 teaspoons soda (in syrup) 1 teaspoon vinegar 1 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon cinnamon Mix roll thin, bake in hot oven, 375 degrees. May use as drop cookie. My favorite Oatmeal Cookie recipe: 2 cup sifted flour 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 2 cups oatmeal Mix these together, set aside 1 cup shortening or butter 1/2 cup granulated sugar 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/3 cup milk or buttermilk Beat shortening and sugars together, add eggs, vanilla, & milk and mix well. Add dry mixture and mix well. 1 cup raisins or dates or chocolate chips and 3/4 cup nuts may be added last. Drop by spoonful and back 12 minutes at 375 degrees. makes 6 dozen if using a teaspoon.
