School of Civil Engineering & Architecture, ChongQing Jiaotong University, ChongQing 400074, China

Abstract The embedded element and the non-nodal FEM were introduced to used to simulate
the reinforced concrete structures in the paper. The concepts and features of two methods of
building models ate discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of the methods were expounded
through the three examples. Some useful conclusions were drawn by the comparison of two
methods.
Key words: finite element method; building model; reinforced structure; non-nodal connection;
