The MPP16 drive operates with low voltages . The installation of the unit as well as of the accessories is only permissible by qualified personnel. A safe and trouble-free operation is only possible when the valid regulations according to IEC 1000, EN 60204-1, EN 50082.2 as well as the relevant regulations for end users area are observed.
On the drive there are parts at high temperature and capacitors maintaining some charges. After any working section, wait some minutes before operating on the device in order the temperature of heat sink and the capacitors voltage can go down to not dangerous values. Pay attention to the AC supply and motor cables connections.
Using items without potential-separated inputs/outputs, it is necessary that potential equality exists between the components to be connected (e.g. through equalizing conductor). Disregard can cause the destruction of the components through the equalizing currents.
Making high pot test on a machine including the MPP16 driver, be sure not to exceed the maximum insulation ratings of the unit.

The default setting on MPP16 is for PNP type inputs. PNP Inputs: To select PNP inputs: connect through JUMP1 2 and 3 pins (refer to MPP16 part location diagram) the inputs pull-down resistors to the internal DC (-) side. NPN Inputs: To select NPN inputs: connect through JUMP1 1 and 2 pins (refer to MPP16 part location diagram) the inputs pull-up resistors to internal +24Vdc power supply.
Using NPN inputs , connect the EN input to the GND terminal to enable the driver. Using PNP inputs, connect the RST and RWC inputs to the V+ terminal to disable the Reset and the Current Reduction functions.
Using NPN style connection, input wire grounding fault can result in unwanted actuating of the driver.

INPUTS
CK : Controls the speed of the motor according to the selected step type. The following table shows the number of clock pulse needed to achieve a turn in a standard motor with 1.8 step angle : Step type Full step 1/2 step 1/4 step 1/8 step N of clock pulse 200 400 800 1600
EN : Enables/disables the motor current: 0 = Enable 1 = Disable (Full motor current) (Null motor current)
RWC : Reduces by 40% the selected current value: 0 = Full motor current - 40% 1 = Full motor current
RST : Resets the internal counting of the current waveform sequence. When RST input is enabled the motor rotation stops (even if the clock pulses are applied to the CK input) and the motor holds the torque at maximum current. (See the functional diagram on page 2-6 and 2.8). 0 = Reset counting 1 = Normal operation

Outputs: type
FAULT :
Monitors the status of the drives overcurrent/short circuit protection. During the normal operation the output is high (+24Vdc) and if an overcurrent/short circuit event occurs on the motor outputs, it switches off (Low state). 0 = Protection state (0Vdc) 1 = Normal operation (+24Vdc) To reset the protection state : switch the power supply off, wait some seconds until the green led is lit off and switch power supply on.
HOME :
Monitors position zero of the current waweform sequence (See the HOME and RST signals timing diagram in section 5). The output is normally high (+24Vdc) and switches off when zero position occurs during the counting of the current sequence. 0 = Zero position (0Vdc) 1 = Normal operation (+24Vdc)
Do not use this signal as position reference. If a motor stop occurs because of the load applied to the shaft while the CK pulses are applied to the drive, the position of the rotor determined by the HOME output signal is not correct.

Before handling or operating maintenance actions on MPP16 drive, wait until the LED on the drive is switched off. Do not use the EN input as a safety shutdown. Always remove power to the drive for a safe shutdown. Take into account the heat dissipation function of some parts the MPP16 drive: using the drive in heavy application, some surfaces can have high temperature rise. Before unplugging the drive from the installation wait a proper time for cooling.
3.3
Selecting a The MPP16 driver is designed for use with EVERs line of step motors or most other two Motor phase stepper motors. The motors ratings must be compatible with the output configuration and
ratings of the drive. Refer to the torque/Speed Curves in the EVERs Motors Catalogues or call EVERs sales dept. or your local distributor for motor sizing and drive-motor compatibility planning.
Selecting Options
Refer to EVER co Drivers Catalogue for options planning or call EVER sales dept.

Cooling
Environment The drive should be installed in environment free of dust, corrosive vapors, gases and liquids.
Avoid environments allowing condensation of vaporized liquids, including atmospheric moisture. Installing the MPP16 inside a cabinet, be sure that the air flow openings or the cabinet cooling system do not allow the internal temperature rise to exceed the maximum ambient temperature of the drive. Moreover any local safety regulations concerning the installation of motor drives has to be considered planning the location of the controller.
General Mounting Guidelines
Your installation should meet the following general guidelines: Keep vertical orientation of the device. Avoid excessive vibration or shock. Provide some free space for air flow below and above the unit. Use both 2 fixing holes on the rear heat sinking surface for mounting. The worst case power (PW) dissipated in an application where Vdc is the DC bus voltage and I (A) the motor winding current setting, can be approximated as :

Introduction
Troubleshooting
On the MPP16 system a POWER ON green led indicates that the drive is properly powered up.
The FAULT output switches off when a overload or short-circuit occurs on the Step Motor outputs (SM).
Max Latch
Fault output
Use emergency diagram and the troubleshooting table in the following page to fix and correct most problems. If you are not able to restore proper operation call EVER's Service Support.
When the MPP16 switches to the FAULT state, the power stage disables and the motor loses the holding torque. The planner of installation must provide a safety device to prevent any damage to things or persons if the load drags the motor.
When over current protection occurs : switch the driver off and fix the problem before powering the device up again.
Suspecting the MPP16 system has been damaged, before replacing it with a new unit check that the installation and the power supply design meet all requirements. Tentative fault corrections by simply replacing a MPP16 unit are not a good troubleshooting practice.

Motor produces no torque Motor produces torque but does not turn. Motor rotates a wrong direction. Motor does not reach the expected position.
Check the motor cable is wired correctly and properly plugged into the driver. Check the I/O cable is wired correctly and properly plugged into the driver. Reverse A and A motor leads. Verify that the motor does not stall. If it occurs : 1) Verify motor sizing. Be sure that the power supply voltage is as high as the reference motors torque vs. speed curve requires. 4) Use a smaller step size to avoid low-speed resonance problems. Check that the clock and direction control inputs meet all electrical and timing requirements.
Being unable to correct the problem while thinking the system is not defective, you should call EVER co. for technical explanations or send a FAX message including the following information: Unit code (MPP16Vyy) and serial number as printed on the label on the drive. As complete as possible description of the problem and the condition where it occurs. Description of the drive settings in your application (Current, step type, Inputs type, etc.) Part number of the motor (EVER's code) Power supply AC bus voltage value and characteristics Description of power supply and control signals cabling and other installation components. Description of your application (motor movements, load, speed, etc.). Pag. 4 - 3

Additional Inputs
on CN4 expansion connector, 3 additional inputs signals are available:. CK-AUX : Auxiliary Clock input with the same electrical characteristics as CK input, but with reversed rotation direction. This input can be used only as NPN input type. M1,M2 : Leaving the dip-switch DP1 OFF, these inputs can be used by the expansion board to change the step size on the fly while the motor is running. To change step size, apply a +5Vdc or 0Vdc to these inputs referring to the table of step size selection in section 3.6 (M1 = SW2, M2 = SW1).
Remarks
The COM terminal on the CN4 connector is connected to the common side of the input resistors. Connecting the JUMP1 on the PNP or to the NPN position (refer to 3.6 section), GND or V+ (internal DC bus) are connected to the COM terminal on CN4.
