People thought going to church was the only way to get to heaven. They couldn't read (the bible) so they had to do what the church told them to. They even gave 1/10 of their annual salary. The cathedrals were built so huge because then the cathedrals could hold more people One key component is the flying buttresses. Also there were thick walls and big pillars. There were also arched ceilings

Both cathedrals were extremely massive The architecture was amazing too. The Gothic arches and pillars were fantastic. So were the stained glass windows that described stories from the bible.

A Pilgrimage is a journey to a place that one does not live near. Pilgrimages are usually made because of ones religion. The Canterbury Tales are stories about the trips peasants made to the Canterbury Cathedral. It was written by Geoffrey Chaucer. The 7 sacraments are Baptism,Eucharist/Communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick. They are important because they show what is sacred and are at the same time signs and instruments of god.
