Spanish Design for Russian Trains The Spanish company Talgo has signed an agreement with the Russian

state rail body RZD to design and manufacture new trains. Spain, February 21, 2013 -- The importance of this agreement between the Spa nish company and the Russian rail operator lies in the fact that the Russian rail sector is the second largest in the world, with overnight trains being required to cover 98% of the huge distances in this country. Talgos capaci ty to design and supply trains therefore provides the perfect solution to th e Russian company RZDs needs and its plans to overhaul its fleet of passeng er carriages by 2030. According to Talgo, this agreement will make it possible to develop a mode rn train with all the latest features, which will meet 100% of the Russian markets needs in terms of technology and comfort. The company will adapt its rail technology to Russias specific needs in terms of climate, inside space, gauge and regulations. This agreement underscores the commitment to drive forward economic and t rade relations between the two countries and to open up new markets for S panish companies. It also consolidates their two-way commercial relations hip. This agreement furthers the internationalisation process that Talgo embark ed upon in 2007, one of the main milestones of which has been the contract to supply AVE high-speed trains for the Mecca-Medina route. The 2.4 bill ion agreement involved building 35 trains, with the possibility for 23 more.
