This type of record allows a user to locate a specific service on a network rath er than a specific machine.

An A record is designed to locate a server or host while the SRV record locates a service provided on the network. The service cou ld be a printer, VOip, FTP, or other similar services. They work similar to how MX records functions, just with different types of services. 1) In the Service (SRV Records) section, click on the Edit SRV Records button a) To remove existing Service (SRV Records) select the box next to each Service (SRV Record) you need to Delete and click Continue. b) To Add Service (SRV Records) enter the additional options based on the type o f SRV Records that are being added. Service: the name that refers to the desired service. Protocol: the protocol of the desired service; this is usually either TCP or UDP . Name: the domain name for which this record is valid. TTL: standard time to live field. Priority: the priority of the target host, lower value means more preferred. The priority can be any number 0 and 65535 Weight: A relative weight for records with the same priority. Determines which o f the records with the same priority are delivered more frequently. Enter the pr oportional volume of traffic as a percent Port: the TCP or UDP port on which the service is to be found. The port can be a ny number 0 and 65535 Target: the name of the machine providing the service. 2) A confirmation page will appear verifying that your records have been updated , review the information carefully, and then click on the Save Changes button.
