    Training

    Course Title: Agility Handling Skills (Advanced)

    Course
    Description: This class will focus on improving your handling skills. Teams should be competing at an Open or
    Excellent level. Dogs must be performing all obstacles at competition level, including weave poles.
    Courses will be sequences ranging from 7-15 obstacles. There may be up to 3 different courses set
    up for each class. We will discuss various ways for each team to handle the sequences and
    determine which manner works best for your individual team. Each handler will have the
    opportunity to run the courses with their dog. After each team finishes their run they will receive
    feedback on how they could have handled the sequence more efficiently.

    Schedule: 4-week course. Monday evenings, 6:45-7:45pm. Begins March 2, 2009

    Students: 8-10 students Maximum

    Equipment: Each team will need to bring many yummy treats and/or toys and a leash.

    Trainer: Melanie Hatton


    Melanie started training her first dog after she made the decision to add a Jack Russell Terrier to
    her family. After taking a few obedience classes at a local pet store she and her teammate Grace got
    bit by the agility bug. Melanie and Grace have been competing in agility since 2003. Grace was a
    2007 AKC National Agility Finalist finishing 4th place in the 8” division and Grace achieved her
    MACH 3 in September of 2008. Melanie also has another Jack Russell named Eli (2 years old) and a
    rescue Chihuahua named Abbie that also compete in agility. Melanie has attended various seminars
    and continues to take private lessons from a well known agility instructor in Ohio. Melanie’s
    training philosophy is that agility training should be fun and enjoyable for the dog and trainer. This
    is always achieved without any physical corrections. From a high drive dog to a dog that is
    motivationally challenged, Melanie can help your team reach its potential. References are available

    Cost: $99- Register at Uptown Hounds Reception.
