Some of My Jabberwocky assignment, where we had to guess what the words meant

brillig – something to do with the setting, could be location, temperature, time of day, the
season –a noun of some kind – doesn’t sound light or happy….deep dark nighttime.

slithy – adjectives – slender and slimy (which helped nail-down toves)

toves – noun – small, frog-like creature

gyre and gimble – verbs – to move like a tove, hopping, scurrying, etc

wabe – a meadow with tall grass

mimsy – adjective or noun – swaying, not sturdy


“The ale made him whimsy and he stumbled down the street.”
“The Alders were whimsy in the storm.”

borogoves – noun – a particular kind of tree with thin trunks. Also a group of these.

mome – noun – a gnome-ish creature

raths – verb - sleeps

outgrabe – noun – a garden


(mome raths outgabe could also be adjective-noun-verb, but I like the other way better)

Jabberwock – proper noun – hideous creature


could be symbolic for Evil, people who try to trick you.

vorpal – adjective or noun – a special kind of metal


“And they all began to mine the precious vorpal.”

manxome – adjective – nasty, menacing

whiffle – verb – moving fast, streaking and whisper-like

tugley – adjective – thick and dense

burbled – verb – low, bubbling, growl

galumphing – verb - trudging, with effort and determination (he was happy but tired and
carrying a head)

beamish – adjective - beaming with pride

frabjous – adjective – maybe a merge word – really happy and joyful and victorious
