K-12 now being implemented

We need to add two years to our basic education. Thos e who can afford to pay up to fourteen years of schooling before university, thus their children are getting into the best universities and best jobs after graduation. I want at least 12 years for our public school children to give an even chance at succeeding. President Benigno S. Aquino.

In line with Article XIV Section 2 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution which states that the state shall establish, maintain and support a complete, adequate and integrated system of education relevant to the needs of the people and society.; a new curriculum has been designed and implemented starting school year 2012-2013.

K-12 stands for kindergarten to 12th year. It institutionalizes two additional years to the original ten years. It aims to increase the competitiveness of Filipino graduates by following the global standard of 12 years basic education.

The overall design of the new program design of the new program follows a spiral progression approach by building on concepts in increasing complexity. The desired outcome is that by the end of basic education, students should be able to develop communication, critical thinking, creativity, decision making, nationalism, resourcefulness, cultural inclination and health and fitness awareness.
