The Sikhism Religion

The word Sikh in Punjabi language means disciple. There are multiple things that Sikhs believe, such as one god, who guides and protects them named Waherguru. Sikhs believe that the way to lead a good life is to, keep god in their hearts and mind at all times, and to live honest and work hard, especially when they serve others. They also have to be generous to all the less fortunate people. They also believe in the 10 Gurus. Guru Nanak is the founder of Sikhism. Guru Angad developed Gurmukhi script, written form of the Punjabi Language. Guru Amar Dur trained Sikh apostles, or masands; institutionalized the communal kitchens, or langar. Guru Ram Das founded Amritsar. Guru Arjan Dev compiled the Granth Sahib and became the rst martyr of Sikhism. Guru Hargobind instituted weapons training. Guru Har Rai reigned during a time of peace. Guru Harkrishan, known as the boy guru, became guru at age ve and died of smallpox at eight. Guru Tegh Bahadur, second guru martyr for the faith. Finally, the 10th Guru is Guru Gobind Singh who created the Khalsa, and survived the martyrdom of his four sons. The way Sikhs express their beliefs is to not cut their hair, they dont eat meat killed in Muslim style, and they dont smoke or drink alcohol. They also dont take drugs other than prescribed drugs from doctors used as medicine. The one common thing with Sikhism and Muslims is that they both believe in one god. When a baby is born to Sikhism, there is a naming ceremony. The Guru Sahib, their holy book, is opened at random and the rst letter of the reading becomes the rst letter of the childs name. The baby is also given a steel bracelet to wear as a sign of faith. Older children may choose to enter the Khalsa, a committed group of Sikhs.
