Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection InTASC Standard: Standard #3: Learning Environments. The teacher works with others to
create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Brief Description of Evidence:

This is a presentation I created to teach the classroom about individuals who are blind and deaf. The presentation divulged the forms of communication that are used by such individuals, assistive technology in the classroom, and ways to accommodate and differentiate instruction to those who have blind and deaf impairments. Students were required to engage in social, and collaborative learning activities to understand the content. A pre-test and interactive post-test were administered to show the growth of the students knowledge of content.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I learned how individuals who are deaf-blind communicate and how they initially begin learning this method of communication. I better understand how to accommodate to deaf-blind learners in the inclusive setting and how to differentiate instruction to fit their learning styles. Engaging the classroom in meaningful, applicable activities is a key to effective classroom instruction. I found that implementing this strategy effectively requires careful, diligent planning and must be performed with enthusiasm when delivering the instruction. This ensures a more lasting impression of what is taught in the minds of the students.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the InTASC Standard:

Socially interactive learning was the focal point of my presentation. I taught the EnglishManual Alphabet to the class. I wanted the students to feel what it was like to communicate with this method. In groups, they were to tell each other what they ate for breakfast, using only the English-Manual Alphabet. This provided an ideal environment for collaborative learning. After the activity, the class engaged in a discussion about their experience.
