ORACLE E-SUITE OPENTV SUMMARY OpenTV Achieves 80% ROI and a Payback in 1.

25 years with Oracle E-Business Suite A recent independent ROI case study by Nucleus Research has found that OpenTV -- one of the worlds leading providers of advanced digital television solutions -- has achieved dramatic results from their implementation of Oracle E-Business Suite, including an ROI of 80 percent, a 1.25-year payback period, and total annual benefit of just under US$1 million. The Challenge By the fall of 2007, OpenTV realized it needed a new ERP system and began evaluating options, including Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, and Lawson, according to the ROI case study. OpenTV had deployed Lawson ERP for order management and financials but as the company grew it found some limitations required manual data entry and verification, particularly to support OpenTVs global revenue recognition needs. In particular, the company needed application support for revenue recognition for service contract models, global GAAP and non-GAAP accounting, and multientity reconciliation. The new system also had to be up and running rapidly to process two quarters of financial data in the new system before passing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in June 2008.

The Solution: Oracle E-Business Suite According to the ROI case study, OpenTV chose Oracle E-Business Suite and implementation partner DAZ Systems for four main reasons: The core Oracle E-Business Suite functionality could meet OpenTVs business requirements. Oracle E-Business Suite offered comparatively lower TCO than other options. Oracle E-Business Suite met OpenTVs world-class business needs.

Oracles partner, DAZ Systems, had considerable experience implementing similar projects in a short time frame using Oracle Business Accelerators. The Results OpenTV would achieve a benefit of US$2,986,062 in three years, thanks to a combination of direct and indirect savings, including reduced IT costs, reduced manual data entry, increased management productivity, reduced auditing time, and reduced risk. The 3-year total cost of the solution, including consulting, software, training, and personnel, was just US$1,628,423.
