Background: Released in 2008, developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Console: Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC Origins: Fallout 3 was originally developed by Interplay (under the codename Van Buren) as a turn based birds eye view game like its predecessors (Fallout 1 & 2) but the company closed down in 2003. As a result, Van Buren was cancelled. In 2004 Bethesda started development of Fallout 3 in a completely different angle similar to their Elder Scrolls games and released it 2008. About the game: Fallout 3 is a real time Role Playing Game set in 2277, 200 years after a nuclear war that turned the world into a devastated post-apocalyptic wasteland. The game takes place in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Washington D.C. and the surrounding area. A pre-war company called Vault Tech created a number of nuclear survival shelters across America which was advertised to keep humanity alive after the war but really played host to a number of horrific experiments. The player character was brought up in Vault 101 whose experiment was that the vault would close and never open, but the player characters father escapes the vault and the player character goes out into the wasteland after him. Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG Target Audience: The game is quite violent and is aimed at players between ages 18 30 and its age classification is an 18. Reviews: Fallout 3 received critical acclaim. Gamespot gave it 9/10, IGN gave it 9.6/10 and Metacritic gave it 91/100
