WHAT IS IT?

A tool to inspire collaborative story telling

It creates advocates for families affected by autism by creating unexpected connections within their immediate community.

WHO IS IT FOR?
It is for Families living with autism.
Collaborative storytelling will foster a better appreciation for families and children dealing with autism. Collective understanding and celebration will alleviate prejudice and create new opportunities for those families. This is a tool box creates advocates through education and personal stories.

WHY?
Parents of children with autism identied that one of their largest sources of stress was the lack of understanding and consequent judgment of their childrens circumstance and behaviors.

From a survey we conducted we found that

People who know and have grown up with someone on the spectrum know a lot more about autism.

64% of people said that they know Practically nothing or very little about autism.

only6% of people said they were very knowledgeable about autism

HOW DOES IT WORK?

WORKSHOP
Parents and their kids create personal content for their box and decide on who to give it to.

DROP-OFF
The box is dropped-off, handed to or shared with other members of the community. This could be other parents, teachers, neighbors; anyone that the families would like to share their stories with.

RECEIVE
Once the intended recipient receives the box they can choose to add their own experiences or pass it on to someone else.

SHARE
The letter is read, another letter is written and the contents are shared with the next person

RETURN
After the guest book is full each box can be sent back to DFA headquarters to document. When enough stories are shared the boxes will be shown in as a gallery of stories that the community can experience.

REPEAT

DOCUMENT
Each recipient of the box takes a photograph with the object received from the last person and their letter. These photographs will get uploaded online and with time people can track the journey of their box and see the accumulation of stories and inspiration from its many participants. There will be an online gallery of stories celebrating the journey of the boxes and tracking the change created through it.
