THE CLASSIC MALTS FLAVOUR MAP & LOCH FYNE WHISKIES FLAVOUR TASTE CODES

LFW.co.uk and our Stock List have many whiskies with a FLAVOUR TASTE CODE based on the terms: Complex, Light, Delicate, Smoky and Rich, or combinations which demonstrate the character relative to other whiskies. These terms focus the whiskys style according to their position on the Flavour Map, for example: L&SLight & Smoky S/L&Son the Smoky side of Light & Smoky (or two parts smoky: one part light) C,L&SComplex, Light & Smoky (in equal parts) By placing the code of your known whiskies on the Flavour Map you can then explore alternatives in adjacent or opposite positions. Those with a high ratio of S can be considered peaty (rows 9 & 10). Those from columns I & J are the darkest sherry-wood matured and have a dominant R code.

THE ORIGINAL FLAVOUR MAP The Flavour Map has been prepared with and endorsed by whisky expert David Broom, with Diageo Scotland Limited. The Flavour Map features many brands of malt whisky, some of which are owned by and are registered trademarks of Diageo Scotland Ltd and some of which are owned by (and may be registered trademarks of) other companies. In addition to the names of individual distilleries listed on the Map and the Classic Malts words, the Quaich device, the Flavour Map device and associated logos are trade marks. LFWs appended Flavour Codes and overlay grid are copyright. LFW.co.uk thanks Dave Broom & Diageo for the use of the map.
