Carroll Harrison Braddy: A Look at the Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition A prominent figure in the Atlanta community, Dr.

Carroll Harrison Braddy is dedicated to improving the lives of the countrys children. He is the Founder and CEO of Braddy Preparatory Academy and also contributes to nonprofits such as the Community Health Care and Education Foundation (CHEF), which manages the Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition (COPC). COPC was established in 2007 by CHEF. The Coalition now comprises more than 45 members, who are all committed to fighting childhood obesity through policies and community efforts. Members come from a wide array of industries, including health care, public health, alternative transportation, and nutrition, adding to the strength of the COPC. The COPC promotes policies that encourage more physical activity and greater physical health for children, including building safe walking routes to school, keeping unhealthy foods out of school systems, and raising awareness of the nutritional facts of sugary drinks and foods through the Soda Free Sundays campaign. The Coalition also strives to create community programs that use school facilities, including playgrounds and gyms, to promote physical activity beyond the classroom.
