Servicing clutch control

Checking clutch cable function
The clutch cable adjusting mechanism must be undamaged.

Depress clutch pedal fully onto stop at least 5 times. Move release lever approx. 10 mm, opposite to operating direction (arrow). The release lever must move freely. Notes: To prevent an early and therefore unjustified replacement of the clutch cable, observe the following during the functional check: Before repeating the functional check always pump the clutch pedal at least 5 times. Only when the release lever cannot be moved opposite to the operating direction does the clutch cable adjustment mechanism require servicing. Making clutch cable adjusting mechanism serviceable again (up to 26.04.95) =>Page 30-6. Making clutch cable adjusting mechanism serviceable again (from 27.04.95) =>Page 30-14. Making clutch cable adjusting mechanism serviceable again (up to 26.04.95) If the adjusting mechanism functional check cannot be carried out as described on Page 305 then it is possible that the mechanism has been rendered unserviceable by mis-handling (e.g. hooked into release lever under tension). Identification: The clutch release lever cannot be moved opposite to the direction of operation, even after operating clutch pedal several times.

The non-functioning adjusting mechanism will lead to clutch slip and therefore premature clutch wear. Pull clutch cable out of release lever mounting by pulling forcefully (arrow direction -A-).
